Check Status Of Tenants Before
Letting Out Property -Singapore.

It is a very serious offence for harbouring immigration offenders. Under the Immigration Act, if the homeowner is found guilty of the offence, he or she shall be sentenced to an imprisonment of not less than 6 months and not more than 2 years, and shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $6,000.

All homeowers in Singapore, who wish to rent out their premises or rooms to foreigners, must exercise due diligence in checking their prospective tenants' immigration status to ensure that they are in Singapore legitimately.

Before renting out, homeowners must verify the status of the tenants as follows :

- check the original immigration pass or/and work pass
- double check the particulars by comparing against particulars on the passport.
- verify with the employer if prospective tenant is working in Singapore.

Any person or organisation, who is in doubt about the status of the prospective tenants, is encouraged to check with the Singapore Immigration & Registration (SIR)or Ministry of Manpower (MOM) as follows :

SIR - Tel : 6391 6100 (for immigration passes)
MOM - Tel : 64385122 (for work permit passes) or
