is a very serious offence for harbouring immigration offenders. Under the Immigration
Act, if the homeowner is found guilty of the offence, he or she shall be sentenced
to an imprisonment of not less than 6 months and not more than 2 years, and shall
be liable to a fine not exceeding $6,000. All homeowers in Singapore, who
wish to rent out their premises or rooms to foreigners, must exercise due diligence
in checking their prospective tenants' immigration status to ensure that they
are in Singapore legitimately. Before
renting out, homeowners must verify the status of the tenants as follows : -
check the original immigration pass or/and work pass - double check the particulars
by comparing against particulars on the passport. - verify with the employer
